Save your Cover September!

If you own a hot tub, or ever have, you know that the cover is the part of the spa that takes the largest beating from the great outdoors.  Over time, you will notice that the cover will eventually fade, crack or become water logged and VERY heavy.  Here are a couple of tips on how to take care of your cover to help extend its life!
1. Clean & Protect the cover

Your cover should be cleaned 1-2 times per month.  They are made with an outdoor-grade marine vinyl which is much more resilient that any indoor vinyl, but still requires a proper cleaning.

Recommended Product:  303 Protectant is the perfect conditioner to clean & protect your spa cover!  Originally engineered for aerospace and aviation applications, 303 Protectant is a premium surface treatment that instantly beautifies and provides superior protection against harmful UV rays that can cause discoloration, fading, embrittlement, cracking and/or chalking of surfaces. 303 Protectant also repels dust, dirt, lint, soiling, staining, water spots, salt water and mildew. Safe and effective for vinyl, clear vinyl, gel-coat, fiberglass, carbon fiber, synthetic/natural rubber, plastics and finished leather.

2. Repair It (if needed)

Over time, vinyl can tear or seams can open.  Most covers have a zipper system which allows you to check the foam.  If water, or steam from the spa has made it’s way into the foam core, you will notice that it has become heavy and may need to be replaced.  If you do find a tear in the cover, be sure to properly seal it.  Duck tape is a great temporary repair, but we recommend an actual Vinyl repair for a longer solution.

Recommended Product:  Tear-Aid.
Vinyls have oils that are absorbed by most adhesives which causes the adhesive to turn gooey, gummy, and ultimately lose bond. Tear-Aid vinyl repair patches contain an inhibitor that blocks the oils found in vinyls resulting in a longer-lasting repair.

3. Install a Cover Lifter

Cover lifters are designed to assist you with opening the spa, but it also contributes to the wear and tear of the cover.  Without it rubbing against the side of the spa, sitting on the ground, or dragging across a deck, the cover is likely to last longer.  Our manufacturer is so confident in this, that if a Caldera cover lifter is added to a Caldera Spa, 1 Year is added to the cover’s warranty.
